Valley of the Moon's zin is berry-licious

Valley of the Moon Zinfandel (2005)
Origin: California (Sonoma County)

Price: $10

OK, so I had an "interesting" evening. What previously was only a small leak under my bathroom sink turned into a full-blown water ambush. Just my luck. I was drenched and my nerves were shot. Oooh, looky here, I spy a zinfandel that touts a whopping 15 percent alcohol. It's an understatement to say that this was in order tonight. But in all seriousness, I've had Valley of the Moon before and I'm just as wowed this time as I was the last.

For a zinfandel, it's extremely rich and exploding with berries. The strawberry jam hits you right up front, followed closely by blackberry, plum and blueberry notes. Factor in the dash of sweet spices infused with a hint of vanilla and toasted oak and you've got a winner. It's uber-smoothness makes it awesome to drink all by itself but you could also pair this zin with hearty pastas and spicy ethnic dishes.
