Blackstone makes a mean pinot noir

Blackstone Pinot Noir (2004)
Origin: California (Sonoma County)

Price: $10

Did you ever taste a wine and have to really think hard about whether you like it or not? The reality is that when a pinot's positively superb, you don't even have to think about it, you just know right away. Congrats, Blackstone. You deserve a pat on the back.

Try this: Uncork. Let it breathe a bit if time allows. Pour a glass. Give it a good swirl. Watch its legs do a scandalous dance. Note the bright red hue. Take a sniff. Do you get the intense nose of earth and berries? Alright, now take a sip. Bham! You're blown away by the cherry vanilla goodness, boasting a succulence that simply won't quit. There's almost a candy quality to it. Mmm, mmm, good. The rich oak is much more obvious than in the average pinot noir, but extremely smooth nonetheless. Take another taste and you'll realize there's a hint of licorice and a pinch of spice. Does it get any better than this?
