Red Bicyclette Pinot Noir (2005)Origin: France (Vin de Pays d'Oc)
Price: $10
It's been a very long day, and quite honestly, after working far too many hours, I was really looking forward to uncorking a bottle. But I wasn't in the mood to experiment with anything too crazy. I don't think my poor little stressed and overworked heart could stand a disappointing wine tonight. So I opted for a sure bet: Red Bicyclette.
This wine is oh so very cherry, and throw in a little plum to boot. The tannins are so smooth that before you know it, your glass is empty. No lie. The oak is extremely subtle and does not at any point overpower the berry flavors. There's also some great leg action. I really can't complain. Lively and delicious.
Alas, I'm exhausted and must get some rest. But I will leave you with this thought. The label on the bottle goes on and on about how drinking this wine is "as easy as riding a bike." What a cute little pun, considering that "bicyclette" is the French word for bicycle. But I'm not gonna argue, it's good branding. Cheers.
P.S. You have to love that the cork simply has "Bonjour!" written on it.
